Ivan Binar

Ivan Binar was born in 1942 in Boskovice, Moravia. Writer, translator and editor, imprisoned by the Communist régime (1971-73); after signing Charter 77 forced into exile.

He worked for Radio Free Europe in Munich, after November 1989 returned to Prague, where he continued working for the Czech section of RFE till its end in 2002.

In November 2002 Ivan Binar was elected director of the Czech Writers´ Union.
